Khuslen's 1st pumpkin patch visit and 1st Trick or Treat

Khuslen had his 1st pumpkin patch visit with his mom, dad and grandpa. He loved riding the cart, picking up the pumpkins and throwing a basketball  ball to the hoop in the corn play area.

Khuslen also went on his 1st Trick or Treat on Halloween and he dressed like a Mongolian warrior and as he was doing Trick or Treat, he met his friend Ruby and Henry and they went together on Trick or Treat.

He also loved carving the pumpkin during the Halloween. He specially requested to have an angry pumpkin.

Thanksgiving Adventures!

What do the following things have in common?

Seven pies, 6 firefighters, 2 police officers, a fire engine, 2 squad cars, a fire truck, a huge fan, an 18 pound turkey, honey, soy sauce, and diaper cream.

This is the story of our Thanksgiving dinner - kind of.

The turkey made a huge mess in the bottom of the oven in the basement at Mom and Dad's house.  Mom decided to set the oven to clean.  This caused an grease fire and filled the basement with smoke.  The smoke detectors went off and the alarm company called.  We saw sparks under the oven, so Mom told the alarm company to call the fire department.  John and Liza cut the power to the stove.  Most everyone put on their coats and went outside.

Two police officers arrived first.  Then 6 firefighters showed up in a fire engine and a fire truck (Quint 3). Smoke was pouring out of the oven but they couldn't open the oven because the "clean" feature had locked the door.  They used a huge fan to get as much smoke out of the basement as possible.  We tried to google the oven model to figure out how to open the oven, but we couldn't figure it out.  The firefighters stuck around until the oven cooled down enough and there wasn't any more smoke coming out.  They were here about 30-45 minutes.  Thankfully, they had just finished eating their Thanksgiving dinner.

We finally sat down to dinner about an hour later.  Most of it was somewhat warm, but at that point, we didn't care at all.  After dinner we went down and were able to open the oven.  There was definitely a fire in there.  It's still making a funny crackling sound as the oven continues to cool.  Mom and Dad will have to get someone out here to figure out if they will need to put a new range on Dad's Christmas list.

Oh, I almost forgot about the honey, soy sauce, and diaper cream.  Kathy burned her hand on the stove making dinner. (completely unrelated, but she would still like some sympathy)  These are some of the remedies we have tried to make her hand feel better.  The diaper cream is winning.

We are definitely thankful for many things today!  And, I think we might be taking some treats to the fire fighters!

Halloween in Denver

We're back in London and tonight is Guy Fawkes / Bonfire Night, so there are lots of fireworks going off all around us (actually this has been the nightly event since we returned).

Ryan was excited to spend Halloween in Denver - the first time in 5 years!  He took full advantage on Halloween night.  He went trick-or-treating with his friends, Graham and Camille.  They went out for one hour, came back to the house to empty their loot and then went back out again.  Ryan's haul nearly tipped the scales of the luggage weight limit...

We also spent a weekend in Breckenridge and Vail while we were in Denver - the fall scenery was beautiful.
